Redesign and replacement of children's Lye Field play equipmentHere is some good news. For the past 6 months the Seend Lye Recreation Field Committee has been working on finding a way to replace the Lye Field children’s play equipment which has reached the end of its useful life. We are pleased to be able to tell you that we have received a significant grant offer from Suez Communities Trust. However, the grant is not quite enough to achieve all that we would wish for our children. Despite the large sum being offered, which is just over £49,000, this project is going to need a bit of community engagement through a community support group to get the project completed. We want to get the best play equipment we can within the budget available. The funding is in place and the project must be started by the contractor, from a cleared site, by Monday 18th March 2019.
Up to 25% of the project cost is expended in removing and disposing of the old playpark equipment and renewing the fencing. If we can get together to undertake this part of the project from parish resources, and we mean Community Support Group sweated labour, we can spend more on better playpark equipment and safety surfacing. The existing play equipment needs to be removed and the site prepared by 24th February 2019. You will notice some play area items have already been removed as we work through December to February. We expect to have the project competed by Friday 14th June 2019, in time for the school holidays and the 60th anniversary Seend Fete and Flower Show. |
Project timescale and finance |
Here is the updated project timescale for download. Our plan is to remove and recycle the current play equipment, surfacing matting and fencing using Community Support Group labour. We plan to undertake a small amount of groundwork to help reduce the overall cost and then repair/replace the fencing when the playpark equipment has been installed and finished. We will need to raise money for the equipment hire, fencing materials and for replacement of the picnic tables etc. If anyone is interested in supporting this worthwhile project, through organisation of volunteers, stretching of muscles through hard work, or through cash donations read on.

How you can help |
On a number of working weekends in January and February 2019, (see project timescale) we are going to need:
Helpers, people who can remove/erect fencing AND people who can supply and operate Oxy-Acetylene cutting, or disc cutting equipment, a tracked digger, a chain saw. We will also need transport to take the steel items to the scrapyard so we can turn the metal into cash if possible. LATEST UPDATE 5TH JAN 2019. After 45 volunteer hours working on the play park clearance the job advances to the earthmoving phase from 16th February 2019 - when we will need help to cut the fibre matting play surface into sections for disposal. The site clearance target date is Sunday 24th February 2019. If anyone is interested in supporting this worthwhile project, through organisation of volunteers, stretching of muscles or through hard work please contact Steve Vaux, Secretary, Seend Lye Recreation Field at [email protected] (click here now for a contact form) or leave a voice mail on either 01380 828970 or 07826364980. For those who feel they can support this project financially, we would be pleased to accept your donations, however small, via the Treasurer, Richard Walker, at the Seend Post Office. If you are a UK taxpayer, we can reclaim the tax paid on your donation through Gift Aid. Just request a form or download one here: https://www.seendlyefield.org/gift-aid.html All donations will go to the play park project. Thank you!
